Αγωνιστική οδήγηση

Ο Γιάννης Μπούστας δεν χρειάζεται συστάσεις. Οδηγώντας από τις αρχές της δεκαετίας του '90 μεχρί το 2008/11, με τρεις διαφορετικές γενιές αγωνιζόμενων, είναι ο πιο επιτυχής Έλληνας αναβάτης. Μια από τις προσωνυμίες που του αποδίδονται είναι αυτό του 'Πρωταθλητή διαρκείας'.

Μετά την αποχώρησή του από την πρωταγωνιστική δράση στις πίστες, έχει αναλάβει ένα νέο ρόλο όσον αφορά την αγωνιστική οδήγηση, μοιράζοντας την πολύτιμη εμπειρία του με την επόμενη γενιά των Ελλήνων αναβατών. Τόσο σε αυτούς που επιθυμούν να εξελίξουν το αγωνιστικό τους επίπεδο, όσο και εκείνους που προσδοκούν να αποκτήσουν ικανότητες που θα τους εξασφαλίσουν αποδοτικότερες γραμμές και χαμηλότερους χρόνους σε ένα φιλικό track day

Όπως είχε πει ο ίδιος παλιότερα:

 

"Δεν θεωρώ τον εαυτό μου κάτι ιδιαίτερο, πιστεύω ότι έχει να κάνει με το επίπεδο και με το ότι γνωρίζω πολύ καλά τη μοτοσυκλέτα από την αρχή μέχρι το τέλος. Επίσης, έχω ένα τρόπο να εργάζομαι με την ομάδα μου, να ξεκινάω από το μηδέν και να φτάνω στο δέκα χωρίς να προσπερνάω τίποτα. Δεν βιάζομαι, είμαι ήρεμος και έχω την εμπειρία, μέσα σε ελάχιστες ώρες και αγώνες, να φέρνω μια μοτοσυκλέτα σε ένα επίπεδο 50-60%… να μπορείς να την οδηγήσεις. Και μετά να την κάνω να κερδίσει."

Η αρχική προσέγγιση του Γιάννη είναι η ανάλυση της τεχνικής κάθε αναβάτη και η εφαρμογή διαφορετικών βελτιώσεων στα σημεία που ο καθένας χρειάζεται. Γίνεται λόγος έτσι για στρατηγικές που μπορούν να εφαρμοστούν γενικότερα από όλους, ανεξαρτήτως επιπέδου και εμπειρίας. Ύστερα ακολουθούν οι δικές του προτάσεις & ρυθμίσεις στις συνθήκες της συγκεκριμένης ημέρας με σκοπό πάντα την βελτιστοποίηση της οδηγικής τεχνικής του κάθε αναβάτη.

RACING PERIOD 1990

At the age of 18 enters his first race 26-5-1990
on a self sponsored 80cc YAMAHA two stroke. Ends season in 2nd place atop
the Greek National 80cc championship.

RACING PERIOD 1991

Enters in the Premier Greek National Superbike Championship upon a self sponsored stock Suzuki GSXR 750, culminating in two 5th place finishes. Mid-season John is hired by team Marlboro-Yamaha Hellas to ride their Yamaha FZR 750 OW 01 Superbike.
Results: He’s crowned Greek National Superbike Champion in his rookie year of racing the class

RACING PERIOD 1992

John impresses visiting Honda HRC Race director Mr. Oguma and is supplief with a full HRC Spec RC-30 Superbike.

Results: Greek National Superbike Champion. International Races: Scores a 5th place finish in the European Open Championship at Paul Ricard circuit, France.

RACING PERIOD 1993

Team: Team Boustas Kawasaki
Bike: Kawasaki ZXR-750R
Series: Greek National Superbike Championship Results: 2nd place in Greek National
Superbike Championship.

 

RACING PERIOD 1994

Team: Marlboro-Factory Yamaha Hellas
Bike: Yamaha YZF 750 Superbike
Series: Greek National Superbike Championship
Results: Greek National Superbike Champion.
International Races: John participates as a wild card in the World Superbike Championship placing 22nd and a Mechanical DNF in Misano, 11th and 14th at the Mugello Round in Italy.

RACING PERIOD 1995

Pre-season: John is sent by Marlboro Hellas to attend the Kenny Roberts Senior Training Ranch in Spain.
John impresses Kenny Roberts Sr. and is invited to test
a Yamaha TZ 250 at Catalunya Raceway in Spain. After completing a total 220 laps in two days Kenny Roberts Sr. rewards John with a ten lap test aboard Luca Cadaloras YZR 500 GP bike.

Bike: Yamaha YZF 750 Superbike
International Races: John is again invited by Kenny Roberts Sr. midseason for two races to ride his Marlboro Team Roberts stock Yamaha TZ 250 GP bike with teammates Sete Gibernau and Jose Baressi in the Ducados open 250 Spanish Championship. John scores a 14th place finish in Jerez and a mechanical DNF in Jarama.

RACING PERIOD 1996

Team: Marlboro-Team Boustas

Series: World Superbike Championship
Results: 14th at Laguna Seca, USA.
14th at Brands Hatch, England. 15th at Sentul, Indonesia

First Greek motorcycle Racer in history to score 5 points in World Superbike Championship.

John is approached by Team Ducati Promotor Powerhorce manager David Tardozzi to test for team Gio.Ca.Moto at seasons and as teammate to Paolo Casoli for World Superbike, unfortunately deal falls through as team Powerhouse moves to 500 GP Racing program.

Results: Finishes 6th in Greek Superbike Championship with only 3 out of8 races raced because of conflict with World Superbike rounds.

RACING PERIOD 1997

Team: Mobil 1- Bridgestone - Factory Honda Koutsoubos.
Bikes: CBR 600 Supersport & RC 30 Superbike (Honda)
Series: Greek National 600cc Supersport Championship and Superbike Championship
Results: Both Greek National 600cc Supersport Champion and Greek National Superbike Champion

Team: Mobil 1- Bridgestone - Factory Honda Koutsoubos.
Bikes: CBR 600 Supersport & RC 30 Superbike (Honda)
Series: Greek National 600cc Supersport Championship and Superbike Championship
Results: 2nd year in a row both 600cc Supersport Championship & Superbike Champion

Results: Wins both the 600cc Greek Supersport Championship & the Stocksport Championship for the 3rd year in a row
International: John is invited to test Carl Fogarty’s 955 Ducati Superbike in Misano and comes within 1,5 seconds of the track record.

International Races: Places 22nd in French Round of European Supermotard Championship and two 6th place finishes in the greek Round. Scores a 15th place finish in the Greek Round of the World Supermotard Championship.
Wins Rookie of the year 2002 in the European Supermotard Championship.
